Job Summary: The HR Consultant is a client-facing position, HR Generalist role on the Client Services team. The HR Consultant is responsible for utilizing human resources expertise to support clients’ HR teams. The HR Consultant must have a broad understanding of federal employment laws, particularly employee leave laws, and experience in research and application of federal, state, and local employment laws on varying situations. The HR Consultant is responsible for communicating HR consulting services to prospects and clients and participating in the overall sales cycle at CAC Group. The HR Consultant works cross-functionally with both P&C and Benefits Sales and Account teams and all areas of Client Services, including Loss Control and Safety, Benefits Compliance Consulting, Population Health Management and Workers’ Compensation.
The HR Consultant also assists internal HR Team members with various research projects, special projects and/or committee work, as needed.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Field questions on a variety of HR topics and questions from clients, relying on federal and state employment laws and best practices to provide customized guidance and recommendations
Guide clients in the development, implementation, and administration of leave management programs based on expertise in applicable employment law
Partner with clients in all phases of the employee handbook lifecycle, including review and recommendations to existing handbook policies and answering questions regarding new policies based on changes in the organization and/or changes in employment laws.
Based on strong understanding of FLSA exemption statuses, review job descriptions and provide recommendations regarding FLSA exemption status
Consult with clients on employee relations issues including, but not limited to performance management, disciplinary action, harassment and discrimination investigations and termination situations
Create and facilitate customized training programs on a variety of employment law and soft skills topics, presented to leadership, management, and general employee populations; training may be delivered in-person or via webinar
Respond to inquiries from clients regarding federal and state law requirements, including research and application of existing laws, proposed laws, and laws that may be applicable to clients
Participate in sales presentations to communicate HR Consulting Services and other Client Services, as needed; audience to include Executives and Senior Management
Develop customized compensation benchmarking reports and guidance on existing compensation structure
Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions
Maintain working knowledge of Online Risk Management/HR system, provide demos of the system and answer clients’ general questions and assist with site navigation; escalating issues as needed
Collaborate with internal team members, including Producers, Account Teams, and other subject matter experts, to provide thorough feedback and analysis of client needs and questions
Utilize critical thinking and research skills to gather information related to clients’ unique questions and state-specific employment law situations
Ability to travel for prospective client presentations, new client presentations, client trainings, company meetings, etc.; approximately 20% of time
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; in lieu of degree can substitute relevant education and work experience.
5-7 years of Human Resources experience required
PHR or SHRM-CP required
Ability to prioritize and communicate with internal and external clients to manage and meet multiple deadlines
Strong organizational & communications skills; effective problem-solving skills, detail oriented
Thorough knowledge of federal employment laws, preferred
Ability to think critically and apply laws and regulations to daily employer issue
Experience and demonstrated success in customer service and client relations
Ability to present information to various groups, including executives, senior management, and general employee population
Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer and Insurance Mgmt. Systems
Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive matters
Experience in insurance, a plus
